Ho · Ghana · 0°32′E of Greenwich

Learn to fly where the world's meridian meets the sky.

A Ghanaian flight academy on the Greenwich meridian, built around clear airspace, honest instruction, and a runway with room to grow. Private pilot training now — a full commercial pathway on the way.

Pilots made in Africa, trained on the meridian.

Flight plan

One heading, from first solo to the flight deck.

We open with the Private Pilot Licence and grow our approvals along a published route. You start where you are — and the academy's scope expands with you, so you never change provider to finish the journey.

Now open

Discovery flight

Thirty minutes at the controls with an instructor. No commitment — just the moment that decides everything.

Now open

Private Pilot Licence

The full PPL, flown intensively or in weekend blocks, with ground school and simulator built into every stage.

Planned scope

Night & RT ratings

Add-on ratings that extend the licence you already hold — more capability without starting over.

On the roadmap

Commercial pathway

CPL, instrument and multi-engine training as our approvals extend — the career route, from one academy.

The base · Ho Airport

Quiet skies are the best classroom.

Circuit training needs room and repetition — impossible under the traffic of a major hub. Ho gives us a modern airport with a 1,900-metre runway, a control tower, and airspace that's ours to learn in.

It sits just east of the Greenwich meridian, in the Volta Region, a short hop from Accra. Career students relocate for intensive courses; our Accra office keeps the front door close to the city.

Programmes

Ways to fly with us.

From a first taste to a full licence, plus the training that keeps the whole operation turning. Every programme uses the same instructors, the same simulator, and the same Accra front desk.

40–45 hours

Private Pilot Licence

The core course. Fly as an intensive residential block or across weekends, with accommodation packages at the field.

30 minutes

Discovery flights

The single best way to know if flying is for you — hands on the controls, an instructor beside you.

Weather-proof

Simulator & ground school

Synthetic training and theory that keep progress moving through the harmattan haze and the wet season.

Commercial demand

Drone / RPAS training

Certified remote-pilot courses for mining, agriculture and survey — same classrooms, growing market.

Live at Ho

Hangar & owner services

Hangarage, ferry flights and currency training for private owners based across the region.

Planned scope

Cadet programmes

Structured airline-oriented pipelines as our commercial approvals come online — built with regional carriers.

In-house maintenance

The hangar is where flying hours are won.

A flight school lives or dies on how often each aircraft flies. Outsourced maintenance means queuing behind someone else's fleet. Ours is in-house — so downtime is a decision we control, not a delay we wait out.

  • Our own Approved Maintenance Organisation, on the field
  • Single fleet type — faster turnarounds, leaner parts store
  • Light-aircraft maintenance offered to owners across the region

ICAO effective implementation · Ghana, 2019 validation

Trained under the highest safety-oversight rating in Africa.

Ghana recorded the continent's strongest ICAO effective-implementation score at its last validation — and English is the language of the cockpit here. For students across West Africa, that's a licence earned somewhere the standards, and the instruction, travel well.

The bigger picture

One mission, built in sequence.

Black Star Aviation is more than a school. Three businesses launch together and feed each other — and, in time, they build toward something bigger: aircraft made in Africa.

Flight Academy · ATO

We teach Africa to fly.

Private pilot training now, a commercial pathway ahead — instructors and students from across the continent.

Simulation Centre · FSTD

Low to high fidelity.

Light-aircraft simulators that make training weather-proof — and the first thing we'll build in Africa ourselves.

Maintenance · AMO

We keep Africa flying.

Servicing our own fleet and any PPL owner or visiting light aircraft, staffed by African engineers.

The destination

Black Star Aircraft.

One day, a factory building clean, light aircraft in Africa — every step earned by the businesses that come before it.

★ Made in Africa

The school teaches Africa to fly. Maintenance keeps Africa flying. The factory — one day — lets Africa build what it flies.

The 20-year arc

Built in sequence, gated on strength.

Set your heading

Book a discovery flight.

Come to Ho, take the controls for half an hour, and see the meridian from the air. It's the first waypoint — and the one that tends to decide the rest.
